Welcome

The Pimlico Academy Sixth Form Programme prioritises academic opportunities for students. Our small class sizes at A-Level ensure that teachers are able to provide high levels of individual support to students. Moreover, our Enrichment programme and our super-curricular offer, expose students to a range of academic opportunities beyond the curriculum. Alongside this we have a comprehensive co-curricular offer, allowing students to get involved in a variety of clubs as well as to develop their leadership skills as a House Captain or as part of the School Council.

Our values are Scholarship, Respect, Resilience and Gratitude. These build upon the wider school values of Knowledge, Respect and Aspiration. We believe the best in our students and expect to see the best versions of themselves every day from their approach to study to being role models to the rest of the school.

We are in an extremely rare and fortunate position to have a full-time Higher Education Coordinator, as well as a full-time Head of Careers. As a result of this support, a high number of students are successful in applying to, and being accepted into, the most prestigious universities and apprenticeships, including Oxbridge and Russell Group universities. We strive to provide students with an enjoyable and memorable experience that will equip them to be successful in the future, whatever path they choose for themselves.

Deadline for all applications 19th December 2025.

Pastoral Care

In the Sixth Form we offer a bespoke programme of pastoral support to our students.  There is a team of staff dedicated to effectively supporting students throughout their time in the Sixth Form.

Furthermore, to ensure that the needs of each individual student are met, students are placed in tutor groups. Our Sixth Form tutors have been specifically selected due to their knowledge and experience and are an invaluable part of our Sixth Form Team. Tutors work closely with    students over the course of their two years to support them academically, socially and with their next steps in their lives and careers. Tutors play an active role in each student’s Sixth Form journey; they are the first port of call for any concerns and     support, and they ensure that each student is achieving their potential in every aspect of Sixth Form life.

There is one tutor session at the start of each day, as well as a weekly assembly for both Year 12 and Year 13. These sessions allow the tutor to check on student wellbeing and progress. They are also a crucial time when key aspects of Sixth Form life are discussed including UCAS applications, study skills and careers guidance.

Parental involvement is key to the progress that students make in the Sixth Form. In addition to parents evenings, there is a Sixth Form Information Evening held early in the academic year to prepare parents for what to expect from Sixth Form as well as to provide advice and ideas on how to best support students at home.

Sixth Form Life

Academic:

  • The Pimlico Academy Sixth Form Programme prioritises academic opportunities for students, both within their lessons and beyond the taught curriculum. Our small class sizes ensure that teachers are able to provide high levels of individual support to students. We have also purchased an AI-powered online learning platform, UpLearn, for students to help support them in their independent study. Work in class is then supplemented by a range of supercurricular opportunities and our Enrichment programme.

Co-Curricular:

  • While we prioritise academic opportunities, we also understand that there is far more that students can achieve during their time in our Sixth Form. Therefore, another significant component of the Pimlico Academy Sixth Form Programme is our co-curricular offer with a myriad of  opportunities provided for students to join and lead clubs.

Higher Education & Careers:

  • We do not view our sixth form experience as only being a two year period; rather, it is a journey from Year 11 through to future careers and adult life. As such, we place significant value on our higher  education and careers  support with a dedicated team of experienced members of staff supporting students throughout their time in our Sixth Form.
  • Ensuring that students are provided with the best guidance while writing their UCAS applications is just one way in which we support students. As a result of this support, a high number of students are successful in applying to, and being accepted into, the most prestigious universities, including Oxbridge and Russell Group universities. We also provide students with intensive support with applications to top degree apprenticeships, and all students go through a comprehensive careers curriculum as part of their time at the school.

Leadership:

  • The opportunity to develop students’ understanding and experience of leadership is a further element that is important in our Sixth Form Programme. Students are given the opportunity to develop their leadership skills by becoming part of the School Council or standing to be School Captain or a House Captain. In addition, further opportunities are given which enable Sixth Formers to provide support and mentorship to their younger peers.

16-19 Study Programme Compliance

At Pimlico Academy all of our students are carefully guided through their enrolment to ensure that they have access to the full Study Programme for 16-19 education.
The government Study Programme Guidance for 2024-2025, states that:
  • All students funded through the 16 to 19 funding methodology must be enrolled on a study programme, or T Level programme, which typically combines qualifications and other activities, and is tailored to each student’s prior attainment and career goals.
  • All study programmes must have a core aim. This will be tailored to the needs of the individual and typically include a substantial qualification (academic or technical) or preparation for employment.
  • All study programmes should include work experience and non-qualification activities which complement the other elements of the programme and support the student to progress to further or higher education (HE) or to employment.

16 to 19 Study Programmes

Guidance (2025 to 2026 Academic year)

At Pimlico Academy, we adhere to the above in the following ways:
  • Students to enrol in a Study Programme which meets the minimum 580 planned hours in terms of delivery and participation.

  • Students enrol in academic subjects to follow a minimum of three A Levels

  • A level study programmes to also include extension/development or non-qualification activity such as tutorials, personal or study skills, and support students to progress to employment or HE.

  • Students to complete a Work Experience Placement during June in Year 12.

  • All students are given the opportunity to complete an EPQ in Year 12.

  • Students to participate in a daily tutor time activities including PSHE,  and weekly core enrichment. Study programmes are individually tailored to develop students' character, broader skills, attitudes and confidence, and support progression.

  • In addition to the Study Programme requirement students receive UCAS preparation and careers guidance from an independent careers advisor, talks and also via the Unifrog platform – all to prepare our students for the world of work.
