Education Enrichment

Personal Development at Pimlico

At Pimlico, we believe that an exceptional education extends far beyond academic outcomes and is rooted in the holistic development of every child. Our approach to personal development is intentional, ambitious, and woven into the very fabric of school life. We aim to equip students not only with knowledge, but with the character and confidence needed to navigate the world successfully. This means developing pupils socially, emotionally, morally, and intellectually, ensuring that they leave us as well-rounded young people who can contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Educational Enrichment

At Pimlico, enrichment is delivered through the Pimlico Promise. The Pimlico Promise is our commitment to every student and parent that their experience with us will be enriched by a world-class programme, ensuring that each child receives a broad range of opportunities designed to strengthen their knowledge, aspiration, and character. Through this, a student will have access to over 50 high-quality educational enrichment experiences during their time at Pimlico.

The Pimlico Promise guarantees that a student’s enrichment journeys will be built on five essential pillars:

Curriculum

We want students to deepen and extend their understanding of our curriculum beyond the classroom. This includes trips to universities like LSE and Sussex, academic clubs FTC Robotics, and subject-specific events like trips to London Zoo and HMS Belfast.

Culture

We want to broaden student’s horizons and provide access to transformative cultural experiences. This is vividly seen in residential trips such as Rome and Paris, as well as whole-year group visits to world-class theatre shows such as Wicked.

Character

We want to build resilience, teamwork, and leadership. This is developed through the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, active learning day trips and residentials to Cuffley Active Learning Centre, our character curriculum and a diverse range of assemblies and clubs.

Community

We want to foster a sense of belonging, responsibility, and civic duty in all of our students. This is achieved through our school council, Pimlico Parliament, Culture Day, and charity events such as our Christmas Food Bank collection.

Careers

We believe it is our duty to prepare our students for a bright future. We guide students along clear, ambitious, and tangible pathways into adulthood. This starts from Year 7 with careers fairs and becomes highly focused in KS4 and KS5 with work experience, multiple Careers Insight Days and specialised trips such as the Y12 Future Medics visit to Imperial College London.

Access for all

At Pimlico, we are deeply committed to ensuring every student has access to a wide range of enrichment opportunities. We work tirelessly to remove barriers and make these experiences inclusive and accessible for all.

To achieve this, we have two dedicated members of staff focused on careers and enrichment, including a Careers Coordinator who holds a Level 6 qualification in Careers Leadership. Our PSHE, Careers, and Character Curriculums complement the Pimlico Promise and form a key part of our Personal Development programme.

The Pimlico Promise is divided into two strands: the Universal Offer and the Extended Offer

  • Universal Offer: This is a carefully designed curriculum of enrichment experiences that every student will access during their time at Pimlico. It is entirely free of charge and tailored to the contextual needs of our students. We know that many of our students face challenges in accessing additional opportunities, so we make it simple and equitable. We leave nothing to chance.
  • Extended Offer: This enables students to pursue further interests beyond the Universal Offer. The vast majority of these opportunities are open to all students. Where barriers exist, we remove them; for example, by heavily subsidising the cost of residential trips and music lessons.

At Pimlico, enrichment is not an optional extra; it is a core part of our commitment to developing confident, ambitious, and well-rounded young people.
